| Welcome to Laminate Flooring 101... |
My grandfather always used to say, "Seeing
is believing."
He and my father spent most of their lives (over 75 years of combined experience)
either installing or maintaining wood floors throughout the US. When asked, "What
are the best floors on the market," they would both say, "If you know what to
look for, you will be able to determine the quality of the floor." Growing up
with this concept I can now pass this experience on to you

When I started this company I decided
to follow their advice. I studied every small detail that they would give me about
laminate flooring. I learned that it is not only what you see on the surface that is
important. I learned the importance of a little investigation. When I had hard
information
.the wear layer ratings, core density and an actual locking sample,
it would allow me to compare the quality of different laminate floors.

| Your education about laminate flooring is just beginning. |
1) The core construction (the center of the floor that you don't see) is very important. You
wouldn't build your house on a sand foundation, would you? It is the same with laminate flooring.
If the core of the flooring is made with a light density material, locking mechanism can break easily
over time. (As the locking mechanism is an extension of the core and made from the same material.)
Having a light density core is also a major reason for the floor to swell and raise when it gets wet.
I couldn't find a current manufacturer that is using the heaviest density core material in their
product. This is one of the major reasons I spent over a year contacting smaller manufacturers in
Europe to make a product that satisfied my need for the highest density core on the market. Since I
specified a 900kg core (most other use 650-700kg) in my new Old Homestead Floors you can be sure that
it will not break at the seams over time. This also allows me to offer a 25 year water warranty
against household spills and cleaning of my floors. If the product ever swells from any household
spills or cleaning I will replace any planks that are needed to fix the problem. Go ahead

the samples to the test
Pour water over the top of the seams when clicked together and see for
yourself
it doesn't swell like the others you will see on the market.
2) The surface of laminate floor is very important. Many customers complain that the typical
laminate floor features little texture and looks like a flat piece of plastic. Since I had mine custom
made I included a nice wood grain texture that looks and feels like hardwood floors.
The surface of my laminate is rated AC4. This means that it is rated commercial and can withstand l
ots of abuse and traffic throughout the product's lifetime. It is much harder than dog's
nails and is difficult to scratch under normal use.
3) The length of the boards is very important when comparing hardwood floors to laminate floors.
Up until now you were stuck with all the boards being the same size when purchasing laminate flooring.
This is a dead giveaway that the floor is not real wood, but laminate flooring. With my new 5"
wide laminate flooring I changed all that. I had my 5 inch flooring made in 3 different lengths
all have locking mechanisms on all 4 sides. This is the closest look to hardwood you will ever see
in a laminate floor. I also added a micro bevel (V-groove) to all 4 sides of the floor to add to the
realism of my floors.
4) The thickness of the board is important. Most laminates on the market are 6-8mm in thickness.
My new 5 inch floor is a full 12 mm thick (almost ½ inch). This allows for a much heavier locking
mechanism that allows you to install my floor over almost any surface. Since it is so thick, it doesn't
flex like the thinner laminates when installed. Another advantage to the thicker 12 mm is that it sounds
like hardwood when you walk over it. The thinner floors have a hollow sound that we eliminated with the
thicker 12 mm boards.
5) The locking mechanism is very important. Unlike most wood laminate flooring with a single area that
locks my 5 inch random length laminate floor has a double locking system custom designed for my product.
It is the strongest lock on the market and will not loosen over time. Put 2 pieces of the samples together
and you will see what I mean. It is rock solid when put together.
6) The backing that is applied to laminate flooring is very important. When I had my flooring made I
specified the heaviest layer of melamine be applied to the bottom of the floor to protect it from water
damage. You will be glad that I went this extra step to protect your new flooring.
7) I give you a written warranty for 25 years against wear, stain, fade, and water damage. I promise
to resolve any problem in a fair, responsible manner. My family has been in the flooring business for over
50 years, so you can be sure that I will be around when you need warranty coverage. This my personal business
and you can call me at anytime if you have a problem or concern.
Our laminate flooring is truly different than all the rest on the market. If I could have found a ready made
product that met all of the above requirements I would have bought it on the spot. It doesn't exist
except in my custom made product, Old Homestead Floors.
